Barbara Wold, PhD

Barbara Wold is the Bren Professor of Molecular Biology and Director of Caltech’s Merkin Institute for Translational Research. Previously she led the Caltech Beckman Institute and founded the NCI’s Center for Cancer Genomics. She and her research group have contributed foundational genomic technologies including LM-PCR, ChIP-seq, and RNA-seq. She worked with and advised Solexa (later Illumina) on the birth and growth of Next-Gen functional genomics. She also advised Myriad Genetics on development of the first DNA-sequence diagnostic.
